Homeopathy is a distinct system for diagnosis and treatment. It considers how the whole person reacts to stresses of all kinds and how this results in states of susceptibility and disease. It views all symptoms, whether mental, emotional or physical, as being part of the whole picture of the disease rather than being separate and independent of each other. It addresses the overall disturbance or imbalance within the body rather than individual symptoms.
Homeopathy is based on the concept of curing like with like. This was a concept acknowledged by Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine, 2500 years ago. Hippocrates stated that disease could be treated by either ‘similars’ (as in homeopathy), or ‘opposites’ (as in orthodox medicine).
Homeopathic remedies use tiny amounts of substances. Because the doses are so small they can not harm the body.
